I'm still here

My poor blog sorry I forgot about you.  With all the social media out there these days after I have posted on Facebook, Pinterest and Flickr I always run out of time to post here.  Sorry it has been so long.

Not much has been happening around here with my sewing.  I've been very busy working and find it hard to get into my sewing room.  I finally finished my course in Childrens Services at the end of June and I'm now working fulltime.  I'm loving it, the kids are just so darn cute.

Work is taking up so much of my time so I'm not taking many custom orders.  I'm working on a custom order at the moment for a friend which she asked me a year ago to make for her but with school and working life was very busy.  I finally sat down and started on it before Christmas.  Slowly it's getting there.

She is a big Star Wars fan and asked me to make her a Star Wars quilt.  Here are the blocks I've made so far hanging on my design wall.

Here is another quilt I'm working on.  A friend is having a baby soon and of course I had to make her a quilt.  I don't know the sex of the baby so I made it gender neutral.

I love this block it's called Whirly Giggle.  I love all the colours it's so bright and cheery.  I'm going to add a scrappy border in the same fabrics to finish it off.  I only have a few weeks before she's due so I need to get a move on.

We went away to our beach house for a few days over the Australia Day weekend.  We had a great time with really nice (very very hot) weather.  We went down to the beach and joined in with the celebrations and watched fireworks display.

I managed to get more hexies sewn while I was relaxing on the beach.  14 done 6 more to go.

Came home last night and I've already done 3 loads of washing and helped the kids organise their school books.  First day of school tomorrow.............whoo hoooo and I have one more day at home all by myself..........yippee.........I think I'm going to have fun sewing all day tomorrow.

Have a great week.

Quilts I'm working on

Here are a few more quilts I'm working on.  I usually try to finish a project before I start on another one but I have so many ideas running through my head that I just had to get them started.

This is a quilt I'm making for myself.  It is my own original design and I have called it Polka Dot Pinwheels.  I love red and white polka dots so I made the fabric the feature in this quilt and the blue and pink match perfectly.  I just need to make the back and quilt it.

I went to the Melbourne Quilt Convention a few months ago and saw a demonstration on making hexagons.  I had a go and I was hooked.  I'm making the hexagons using a quicker and easier method than the traditional way (see my tutorial in previous post).  I wanted the quilt to have the traditional vintage style look to it so I bought some 1930's reproduction fabrics and here is what I've made so far.  10 down and 10 more to go.

And just because I don't have enough to do I decided to start on another quilt.

I've had this fabric by French General in my stash for a few years now.  I've been wanting to make a large king size quilt and pillow shams for my bed using this fabric but I just couldn't come up with the right design.  Then one day the design came to me and I had to cut into the fabric right away before I forgot about it.  I'm hoping that it turns out the way I have pictured it in my head.  I love the mix of cream, beige and red fabrics.  Just perfect for a vintage french style look.

Not much sewing has been done over the last 2 weeks.  I have been sick with bronchitis and having some much needed rest.  I hate sitting around on the couch doing nothing so I have been working on another project which I will post about when I get a chance to take some photos.

Have a great weekend and stay warm.

Pre-cut Fusible Hexie Tutorial

Here is a tutorial on how to use the Pre-cut fusible Hexies.

Supplies needed

Pre-cut hexies (I used 1 1/2" hexies)
Glue pen
3 1/2" square of fabric
Scissors
Needle and thread

Iron a pre-cut hexie onto the 3 1/2" fabric square.

Using your scissors cut around the hexie leaving a 1/4" fabric allowance for folding.

Using your glue pen draw a line of glue at the top edge of one side of the fused hexie.  You can see the blue strip where I have placed the glue.

Fold down the fabric and press to stick.

Repeat on the next side.

Repeat again until all your sides are stuck down.

Turn over.  You now have a finished hexie.

You don't have to remove the fused hexie.  It is a thin interfacing and will wash away over time.

Sew your hexies together to make flowers, a pillow or a whole quilt.

These are very addictive.  If you try this method I would love to see them.  Please post photos on my facebook page.

I hope this tutorial was helpful.  If you have any questions please ask I am happy to help.

Facebooking has overtaken blogging.

Hi everyone it's been so long since I've posted on here.  I've been spending too much time posting on Facebook.

Since January I've been very busy.  I was working a fulltime temp job for 6 weeks for ME Bank but decided office work is not what I want to get back into so I decided to go back to school.  I'm currently studying Certificate IV in Childrens Services and I'm loving it.  6 weeks and then I'm finished.  I did placement at a kinder with 3 and 4 years olds.  I loved working with the children and watching them learn and I learnt so much from them too.  I've had a few job opportunities so hopefully when I'm done they work out for me.

Haven't had much time to sew anything to sell so I've been working on projects that I've been wanting to make for myself and the family.  Here are a few things I made before Christmas which I didn't post about.

I made a few Christmas table runners for presents so I got into table runner mode and here they are.

A Christmas table runner for my mother in law and I made one the same for my sister in law too.

WIP ~ Christmas table runner.  Will be listing this in my shop when finished.

Christmas table runner for my mum.

I also had a custom order quilt to make before Christmas.  The customer requested Minnie Mouse fabric, lots of pink and also personalised.  I love how it turned out so cute and girly.  She loved it.

I have lots more to show you but won't overload you with photos.

Have a great day.

wow it's been so long

It's been so long since I last posted.  I have been busy with family stuff and doing a few custom orders it's been hard to get onto the computer and blog.

I created an Antique Rose Designs facebook page so you can go onto there to see what I have been up to.

Not sure if something has changed on blogger but I can't insert a photo it won't let me select from my pictures.  Am I doing something wrong or is there another way.  If anyone can help that would be great.

(Edited ~ it's working now)
