Baby quilt

I have been busy making a baby quilt for a friend who is having a baby in a few months. Now that I have my new sewing machine I've been trying all sorts of different things. I love these fabrics and the colours they are so girly.

I'm going to try and machine quilt it myself. I did a few classes last year so I know what to do it's just a matter of practice, practice, practice so all weekend I have been practicing my stippling. I hope it turns out nice I will post photos when it is finished or maybe not if it's a disaster.........lol.

My daughter has got the sewing bug too. She has been watching me over the weekend making the quilt and decided that she wanted to make a quilt for her teddies. She is only 8 years old so she is too young to use the sewing machine so I taught her how to sew by hand it didn't take her long to pick it up.

I cut out some fabrics for her and she has been sewing away all day which is a good thing it has kept her out of the pantry. Don't know about you but my kids are always in the pantry drives me insane.

Once she has sewn all the small squares onto the bigger squares she is going sew them onto the white fabric and then I will machine quilt it for her. I got the idea for this quilt from here.

Here she is at work. She has pieced it all herself I had no say. I wasn't allowed to go near it she said to me "it's my quilt". Thinks she's a professional now............lol. Will post some photos when it's all done.

Gail if you are reading this yes that is the gorgeous painting that I bought from you against the wall. Don't worry it's not staying there my hubby needs to hang it up above my crystal cabinet. One day.............

It is freezing here in Mebourne so it has been nice staying indoors over the weekend with the heating and my quilting.

Thanks for stopping by I hope you all had a great weekend.

Carol, your kids sound just like mine... My daughter wanted to spend her money on a play sewing machine, until I stepped in and explained that real sewing machines can give you enough trouble, never mind a plastic one lol! My daughter and 5 year old son both sit around me when I'm sewing, grabbing all the scap peices of fabric and sticking them together with sticky tape! They've made me such an assortment of things. Yes, the pantry thing is the same too! Don't cha love it!
Best wishes,
Jenelle

Hi Carol
Isn't wonderful to see kids doing something creative! Don't forget to show us the end results of both quilts

Glad you've a spot planned for the painting, I did two original versions of that one, you have one and other lives in the USA.

Happy Quilting - good day to be inside, it's going to be freezing!

Oh, the baby quilt will be beautiful. So nice to see a young girl handsewing too, I coaxed my boy to make a cushion cover on the sewing machine when he was 8 (with lots of help!) He enjoyed it, but hasn't asked to do any more sewing yet.
I'm in Melbourne too, it sure has been cold. At least its great crafting weather, an excuse to stay indoors!

Hi Carol, both quilts are going to look great! My boys are the same regarding the pantry. I am always getting whispered to in my ear "Mummy, I'm still hungry!" What is it with hollow legs eh?

Hi Carol, thought I'd pop in to say hi! Both the quilts look gorgeous, you have to post some pics when they're finished.
Enjoy your daughter while she's interested in sewing as my Lisa is 16 now and when I asked her if she wanted me to show her how to sew she said 'no way'she's too busy on msn or text msg her friends! Anyway Carol, I think you have 2 adorable children there! You must be proud... bye, take care, Maryann
